Scoring a bargain and being able to save money is great but there are certain areas in life that you should not be skimping on. Check out the list below to find out what are the things you should never buy cheap!

Before we start listing out the items, here are a few of the criteria that we’ve used to help you determine why you should never buy these things for cheap:

If it is something that you use daily or regularly
If it is something that you consume
If it is something that involves your health
If it is something that you plan to use for a long time

Mattress and Bed

We spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping so you should never settle for cheap bedding materials. Invest in a good mattress to make sure it can support your spine properly which will then also allow you to sleep soundly and wake up feeling refreshed. So don’t wait until you develop a back problem before you look into getting a new mattress. By that time, you would have wished you’d spent a little bit more on your mattress and avoided the painful and sleepless nights.

Shoes

It may be tempting to keep up with the latest trends, but you should make sure that you have a few pairs of high quality shoes. This is especially relevant for your work shoes or those that you use on a daily basis. For example, a pair of well-crafted leather shoes will last longer than a few pairs of cheap shoes. You can mix things up in your closet but be sure to invest in good shoes; your feet will also thank you!

Ladies undergarments

This tip is especially for the ladies, do not buy cheap bras! Invest in bras that are the right size and will fit you properly. If you’re wondering why you should spend a bit more money on your bras, it’s mainly because a good bra will give you the proper support. Always remember, undergarments that are made out of better quality materials will feel and fit you better and in return they will also last longer.

Car parts

Don’t try to cut corners when it comes to your car and make sure you always get original parts for your vehicle. Pay more for essential items like your car tires and the brake pads which are important safety features of every vehicle. When you purchase good tires you will also ensure a better ride quality, so think of it as a long-term investment!

Food

Supermarkets usually have a clearance section where you can get food items expiring soon for up to half its original price. But before you clean house in the clearance shelves, hold up! You should pass on items like vegetables and fruits that are on clearance and instead pay a little bit more to actually get it fresh. When it’s something that has to do with what you put inside your body and involves your health, you really shouldn’t be so stingy.

Contact Lenses

If you use contact lenses because you have weak eyesight and prefer them over spectacles or for aesthetic reasons, always get high quality contact lenses. Even if there are cheaper options available, it’s better not to take the risk as if anything goes wrong, it can lead to severe eye problems in the future. So even if it costs you more money now, don’t be a cheapskate about it. This is your eyesight we’re talking about here.

Kitchen Utensils

Think along the lines of kitchen knives as well as your pots and pans. For your cookware, spending a little bit more will ensure that your food cooks quickly and evenly, and on top of that you will also have pots and pans that will last longer so you won’t have to replace it every few months!

For knives, you don’t have to go all out and get knives like the professional chefs. Invest in a few good knives that will stay sharper for longer and make your time in the kitchen a whole lot easier. Spending a bit more can also help you to avoid injuries and frustration in the kitchen, because no one likes getting cut by a blunt knife!

WorkTech Gadgets

Constantly trying to keep up with the latest gadgets is not a smart lifestyle move and can even land you into a never ending hole of debt. However, investing and getting a good gadget that lasts is a smart move. There are plenty of counterfeit products in the market from fake printer cartridges, mobile phones to gadget accessories and more which will most likely stop working or start to break apart after using it a few times. Save yourself from the hassle of having to make new purchases every time your gadget breaks.

Education

The cost of education in Malaysia is said to be amongst the most expensive in the world but as uttered by Derek Bok of Harvard University “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance”. Education is something you should not take lightly. Think of it as an investment for yourself or your children. We’re not saying you have to go to the most expensive or prestigious schools or higher education, but education is an area where you should try to get the best that your money situation allows you because it will empower you and it is among the most powerful investment for your future.

As the saying goes, don’t be penny wise and pound foolish. With the items listed above, we hope you now know which items you should not buy for cheap. And always remember, you get what you pay for!
